Improving Self Esteem Through Individual Therapy Sessions

Self esteem is the term used to express self worth and personal judgement. It can be either positive or negative, and it encompasses personal beliefs, values and emotional state of being. Many important life tools, including comfort level in social settings, perceived potential for success and the ability to attract positive people, are influenced by levels of self esteem, making this an important subject in every aspect of life.

Your individual levels of esteem are influenced by internal and external factors. The words and actions of others, especially those in your closest circle of family and friends, have a direct correlation to how you feel about yourself. Past and present life experiences also create high or low levels of esteem, and these can date as far back as early childhood. In addition, your own internal critic can influence how high or low levels of esteem become. Constantly repeating negative words or phrases will lower levels of esteem, while focusing on more positive thoughts and words will raise them. Finally, being a very high achiever with unrealistic goals can have negative consequences when it comes to levels of esteem, causing you to fail when success was a true possibility.

When it comes to improving your levels of esteem, replacing negative thoughts with positive mantras can be very powerful. An example would be to tell yourself that you are capable of anything, rather than thinking you are never capable of finding happiness. In addition, you must take the time to identify negative thoughts, giving yourself the opportunity to improve or change them. Finally, it is important to reset your personal expectations. Believing your can become a billionaire CEO overnight or look exactly like your favorite super model or movie star will never enhance your levels of personal esteem, but focusing on becoming the best, most successful person you can be will. Finally, most individuals facing esteem issues benefit from individual therapy. Therapy sessions can help you to better understand all of the methods mentioned above, as well as create new tools that can improve how you view yourself.

When it comes to self esteem, my goal as a therapist is to empower you. Together, we will address the emotional turmoil you are facing, allowing you to regain control of your thoughts and actions. Individual therapy can further help you to let go of past emotions that might be holding you back and focus on all that is positive in your life. Current relationships are also addressed, allowing you to understand which are healthy and which are not. This provides you with opportunities to make positive changes that can greatly enhance your levels of personal esteem.

Participating in individual therapy is a sign of strength, and it is the first step you need to take in creating a new outlook on life. I have seen the improvement that even a few therapy sessions can have on an individual, and I value the opportunity to help you achieve those same positive outcomes for yourself.
